Detoxifying Beet & Berry Smoothie
This Detoxifying Beet & Berry Smoothie is a wonderful way to get the benefits of beets without even realizing you’re eating them. Beets are well known for aiding in the body’s detoxification process, and they also help to fight inflammation. This smoothie uses stevia to provide a touch of sweetness without adding sugar, but you can also use your favorite natural sweetener (e.g., honey, maple syrup, fruit, etc.) to taste instead.
Tip: Be sure to use fresh beets for the best flavor and to get the most nutritional value. To cook beets, place the beets in a medium saucepan, add enough water to cover, and bring to a boil. Cook on medium heat for 45–60 minutes, or until the skins can be rubbed off with your fingers. (To test one, fish it out of the pot with a pair of tongs and run it under cold water until it’s cool enough to handle.)
